I would highly recommend the side trip to Israel when journeying to the middle east. The trip was spectacular; the guide was outstanding and my wife and I have every intention of returning to Israel in 2012 to spend more time visiting this wonderful and exciting country.

My traveling companion and I are taking the Israel: The Holy Land and Timeless Cultures tour with a pretrip to Jordan in May 2011. I would appreciate any and all feedback regarding this trip including the strenuousness of the trip. Thanks a lot.

We've done both the Israel and the Jordon trips. Both trips are nice but we enjoyed Jordon the most.

Be aware  that the tour in Petra is very strenuous. It's approx. a one and one half hour walk each way in and out over uneven terrain. There are horses available but they will only take you part of the way. Donkey carts are also available which will take you all the way. (There is a charge for both options) If you can do walk at least one way, otherwise you'll miss seeing so much.

hawkeye62; your post was invaluable and just the kind of thing I want to know. I know and expect the trip to be awesome, but this practical hint was spot on!  We are taking the Jordan ext. and there just isnt that much down to earth info on it in the guidebooks.  I am looking forward to the trip more than ever! Thanks so much.
