Hi,  I have made a reservation to travel to Egypt during Ramadan, Holiday.  Is this a wise decision?  Will I miss many  attractions due to sites closing early, etc.  Thanks

This is without a doubt a very good question and I don't have an answer.

I would like to give my  worth:

1. I went on the Morocco trip December 2008 and it it happened to be during their Eid al-Adha (sacrifice a sheep) holiday. It was very interesting. There were sheep everywhere, etc.  All this just added to the adventure/discoveries of the trip. Going to a country during a holiday is not necessarily a bad thing.

2. Also, it has been my past experiences that the GCT/OAT reservation agents have never been to the countries and/or on the trips that they are selling. They probably would not know the answer to this question (i.e Ramadan issue).  And I can understand someone's concern over this and reluctance to spend a considerable amount of money on a vacation unless they can be assured that it will be exactly as advertised, etc.

3.  GCT/OAT is always bragging about how good their tour guides are (just look at the home page; i.e. featured program director) and the tour guides are probably the only ones that have the accurate up to date information applicable to their specific  tour/country.

MY SUGGESTION TO GCT/OAT:  Post a tour guide or two (who is actually doing each tour) with their email address in the website so someone with a question applicable to the current status of a specific tour can get an accurate/factural and timely answer.  If you don't want to actually list them in the website have the list available to the reservation agents who can querry them for an answer. Yeah, it may be time consuming and involve a "call back"; however, I'd call it "good service".

In answer to heaven_angel007 regarding the Ramadan holiday. I spoke with an associate who just returned from Egypt during Ramadan. He assured me that there was no interruption to the itinerary so they were not affected by it at all. Enjoy the trip!

We were in Egypt during Ramadan. Only limitation was that some stores were closed at different times of the day. Sites we visited were not affected at all. Liquor was not readily available during this time.  The ATMs were working. In the Marriott in Cairo, there is a bank that is open 24/7 so no problem with money while in the city. Banks outside the hotel and in other locations (i.e. Luxor) weren't all open during Ramadan days. You can use US dollars in many places.
