It has been suggested, and I agree, that the information I originally posted on another thread would be helpful to anyone interested in Cape Town.

For anyone scheduled for, planning, or merely considering the UA trip with Cape Town extension (which we took a couple of years ago), I'd like to recommend a new book by one of my favorite travel writers:  Paul Theroux.  The Last Train to Zona Verde - My Ultimate African Safari.  Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2013.

Chapters 2 and 3, about the Cape Town area, are especially applicable.  Theroux is an intelligent, observant traveler, not just a tourist, and he presents the place as it is and not as we might wish it to be: the good, the bad, the ugly.  He discusses in detail many of the places that you undoubtedly will visit, and personal comparisons can then be made.

You likely will not like everything you see in Cape Town, but Theroux probably will help you understand it better.

Great trip - I heartily recommend it!
