What would be an appropriate gift for the school visit in China?  Do they need any particular supplies?

As a recently retired elementary school principal, basic school supplies are always needed.  Packages of pencils, small pencil top erasers, individual colorful pencil sharpeners, glue sticks, art supplies like colored tissue paper or foil, colored pencils would all be very welcome.  The Oriental Trading Company is a fabulous on-line source for all sorts of relatively inexpensive prizes and certificates that there is never enough money to purchase.  Have fun.

I agree with Murphcor......and I always take stickers, of animals and so on. They love those! They are an extra treat that they don't get because of lack of $$ for that in their schools. I also purchased some inflatable globes, that only need blowing up by mouth, to take. They were actually almost like beach balls. This idea was recommended to me by someone who used to teach in China. Construction paper is fun also......and notebook paper is always needed!

China school gifts...

We took alot of what has already been mentioned.  It is always welcome.  There were only about four in our group that took gifts.  One traveler took CANDY...and was the hero!  I think it was a mix of various candies...not chocolate which would melt.  The kids eyes lit up and big smiles appeared when they saw it.  The teacher said the kids come from very poor families and it is rare that they get such a treat.

Another idea might be a map of the U.S. or world.  Albert, our wonderful PD, told us it was hard to get maps of the U.S. in China.

Anything would be appreciated.
