My husband uses a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, and we are wondering whether he will be able to use it on the Ultimate Africa trip.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Perhaps commenting here will raise this to the top. My husband and I are traveling in August 2014 on the Highlights of SA tour. ( A thousand pardons for calling this the Ultimate SA and stepping on OAT toes)

Both of us are CPAP wearers.  Is it possible to bring it?  Or would you leave it behind?

As UA is an OAT trip, this belongs on the OAT forum. It was discussed at some lenghth earlier this year in that forum. Click HERE  to join that discussion. Is Ultimate SA a new trip?

I think it's best to talk to an OAT representative, but according to the What to Know section of the UA trip:  "Not appropriate for travelers in need of CPAP machine". My guess is that generators may be unreliable.

Just a note:  on one of my recent trips (a river cruise) a woman's CPAP broke ..... apparently it was just one part.  The guide went to great lengths to find a replacement part.  This was in Europe ..... I can't imagine the consequences if this happened in Africa.

Only 6 continents. Antarctica is still on my bucket list.

Generators are typically turned off at night, so CPAPs are not recommended on the UA trip. See more on this topic on the OAT website.
