TripMate Travel Protection Plan Benefits
If your trip is canceled, your travel investment is protected
If you have to cancel your trip, even up to the day of departure, you’ll retain the full value of your trip, including your deposit. You will be reimbursed in cash for certain “Specified Reasons,” as detailed in the Plan Documents and for any reason other than a “Specified Reason,” you will receive a travel voucher for a new reservation from Grand Circle for the penalty amount and any remaining balance refunded, either by check or credit card credit.
If you must interrupt your trip or return home early for a covered reason, the plan will pay (up to the original cost of your trip) for your unused land or water travel arrangements, less any refund paid or payable, plus the additional transportation cost to return home or rejoin your trip.
Medical expense and emergency assistance benefits could be a real lifesaver
If you have a serious illness or injury, the last thing you want to worry about is getting the care you need. Our plan provides benefits, up to the plan’s limits, for everything from medical expenses to special transportation (for example, an air ambulance) required for covered medical reasons.
Pre-existing condition? You can be covered
You can enjoy Travel Protection Plan coverage, even if you have a pre-existing medical condition. If we receive payment for your Travel Protection Plan within 14 days of your initial deposit/payment for your trip, the pre-existing condition exclusion in the plan will be waived—which means you’ll be covered before and during your trip, provided you are not already disabled from travel at the time you purchase the Travel Protection Plan.
Travel delayed? You’re OK
You’ll be reimbursed up to $300 a day (to a maximum of $1,500 total) for meals and accommodations if your trip is delayed more than 12 hours for a covered reason.
Extend your coverage to cover third party air arrangements
If you purchase Travel Protection for our Tour-only option—choosing to make your own air arrangements and perhaps use frequent flier miles —as an option, you can now extend your Travel protection to those flights. Your Travel Protection benefits begin when you leave your house, including trip cancellation or interruption, and baggage protection—and your frequent flyer miles are safe in case a situation arises along the way.
Please note: If you purchase Grand Circle’s international airfare and arrange third party domestic airfare to your gateway city, you cannot extend your Travel Protection Plan coverage to that domestic flight.
Baggage lost or damaged? You’re protected
It’s a traveler’s nightmare: You arrive at your destination … but your baggage hasn’t. It’s vanished. It’s been stolen. It’s damaged. What do you do? If you’re covered, you’ll be reimbursed up to $3,000 to replace or repair your lost/damaged baggage and personal articles.
Baggage delayed? You’ve got a backup plan
If your baggage is delayed for more than 24 hours while you are on your trip, our plan will reimburse you up to $250 per day (to a maximum of $1,000 total) to help cover the cost of clothing, toiletries, or personal items purchased during the delay.
Accidental death benefit
Your beneficiaries will receive payment according to the plan’s Schedule of Benefits for Accidental Death, which occurs within 180 days of an injury sustained while you are on your trip.

Please note: If you purchase Grand Circle’s international airfare and arrange third party domestic airfare to your gateway city, you cannot extend your Travel Protection Plan coverage to that domestic flight. There are additional tiers that cover costs up to $98,999.
Conditions & Limitations
Certain exclusions and limitations apply and are detailed in the Certificate of Coverage which is available to you, upon request, at any time prior to your purchase of the plan by clicking here. For example, coverage does not apply to: any sickness or condition of you, a Traveling Companion or an Immediate Family Member traveling with you that existed during the 60 days prior to the effective date of the coverages (this exclusion is waived if you purchase coverage at or within 14 days of your initial deposit/payment for your trip and you are not disabled from travel when you make your plan payment), suicide, normal pregnancy, war or any act of war, or mental or nervous disorders. You cannot purchase third-party air coverage more than 14 days after purchasing your own airline ticket OR inside 46 days prior to departure, whichever comes first. You cannot purchase coverage for flights scheduled to occur more than a combined total of 7 days before or after the adventure-only portion of your trip (Eg: A combination of flights six days before your adventure-only trip begins and two days after your adventure-only trip ends will not qualify for coverage). If you purchase Grand Circle’s international airfare and arrange third-party domestic airfare to your gateway city, you cannot extend your Travel Protection Plan coverage to that domestic flight.
Other Covered Events, as defined, includes the following events or their consequences: 1) Post-Departure Trip Interruption due to cancellation of arrangements by an airline, cruise line or tour operator due to strike, mechanical breakdown of the aircraft on which you are scheduled to travel or inclement weather (Maximum of $150 per day/$750 total) or 2) cancellation or interruption of your trip due to: a documented traffic accident while en route to departure; jury duty; destruction of your residence by a natural disaster; or a documented theft of passports or visas. A Traveling Companion is defined as a person whose name appears with yours on the same travel arrangements and who will accompany you during your trip. Sickness or Injury must require care by a Physician and must commence while the Grand Circle Travel Protection Plan is in force for you. This plan does not cover a loss that results from an illness, disease, or other condition (of you, an Immediate Family Member, Traveling Companion or Business Partner), event or circumstance which occurs at a time when this plan is not in force for you.
Please note, the Grand Circle Pre-Departure Cancellation Waiver does not cover penalties associated with air or other travel arrangements not provided by Grand Circle unless third party air protection is purchased. Travel Vouchers are non-transferable and non-refundable, are valid for a new reservation for travel departing within 12 months of the date of issue, but no later than 15 months from the date your trip was cancelled.
The Cancel For Any Reason Waiver Benefit, Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption and Travel Delay are provided by Overseas Adventure/Grand Circle Travel (for New York Residents, all of these benefits except the Cancel For Any Reason Waiver Benefit are insurance benefits underwritten by Arch Insurance Company). All other benefits are underwritten by Arch Insurance Company. The Travel Protection Plan is administered by Trip Mate, Inc. (In California, Trip Mate Insurance Agency, Inc.). This is a brief description of the plan benefits and services and applies to all trip departures in 2010 and after.
