With us since
2004

I was born in 1951 in Aviano, in Italy’s northeastern corner, about an hour northeast of Venice. In my youth, Italy was emerging from World War II, and most Italians were poor. I remember cold winters with just the kitchen stove warming the house, and warm summer nights when neighbors would gather in courtyards and talk. In our kitchen, food was revered for its scarcity.

Eventually, most of us were able to afford a Fiat 500, install indoor plumbing, perhaps buy a TV, and more as time went on. But through all the history and progress, what I learned in my youth has remained most important to me. For all the art and scenic beauty and food (and I love to cook!) that Italy is deservedly known for, the people and their history are the real Italy. Rather than take home a postcard or other memento from my country, I want visitors to hear stories from what I’ve seen and experienced—to get to know Italy through its people. And, of course, taste some fantastic Italian food in the process!
