A note from independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:
What is the human connection to nature? We posited this question a few years back during a visit to the Andean mountains of Cusco, Peru. There, my old acquaintance and friend, Roger Valencia Espinoza (Peru’s Deputy Minister of Tourism) joins two Shamans for a sacred ritual that strengthens their tie to their place. Shamans Victor and Rufino are Guardians of the Sacred Ausangate Mountains, and have dedicated their lives to offering their love to Pachamama (Mother Earth), and Apus (the spirits of the mountains). The ritual is methodical, detailed, and mindful. Their message is clear, and just as pertinent as ever: they “encourage everyone in the world to respect Mother Earth, to respect the mountains, to respect the lakes… If you do so, we can live happy in life, and they will take care of us.”
