The Beer of Bamberg

Posted on 5/8/2018 12:00:00 AM in What We’re Watching

A note from our curator, independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:

Could you find a German town that produces 50 different beers from more than 10 breweries? Bamberg, of course. Filmmaker Martin Fischer made a documentary about the town’s inimitable and famous beer culture called Bamberg: A City Built on Beer. We were so inspired, we decided to create a short recut of the film. What I find fascinating is how beer in Bamberg, much like sports, is an expression of hometown loyalty and pride. One Bamberger puts it this way: “If a local resident buys something other than local beer here, somebody should punch him out. That could kill our breweries.” Cheers to that!
