A note from independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:
Situated on the southwestern tip of South Africa, cosmopolitan Cape Town is at once laid back and lively. There’s always something to do, and this episode of CNNGo captures a hint of some of the city’s liveliest activities. We visit Long Street, home to various bookstores, boutique shops, restaurants, and bars. We find out more about the nickname “Mother City.” We find out where to surf—and where to avoid surfing—if you’re a beginner. And we visit old houses that have been converted to cocktail lounges. What I love about Cape Town is that if you need to come up for air, you can easily do so. Natural beauty, like the stunning Table Mountain National Park, abounds. “There’s always a wave somewhere,” says surf instructor and Cape Town resident Gary Kleynhans. He’s referring specifically to the surf, but he may as well be summarizing the spirit of Cape Town.
