A note from our curator, independent filmmaker David Conover on why he chose this film:
In Mumbai, BBC News correspondent Yogita Limaye takes us on an intimate tour of her teeming, multicultural city. I loved meeting a few of this city’s 21 million residents. In a quiet neighborhood known for its centuries-old Portuguese architecture, preservationist James Ferreira points out how such havens are fading fast amidst new high-rises. Next we land in a Bollywood dance class, held outdoors in a shanty town, where devoted students like Maya Vanzare dream of becoming big-screen stars. From yoga practitioner Gita Malkani, we hear how laughter yoga is the cure for what ails you. This film fills me with optimism. Even in rapidly changing and modernizing Mumbai, you can find a true sense of community.
