Along India’s southern tip, in the state of Kerala, the sandy shore of Kovalam Beach reaches out to the Arabian Sea. Here, alongside the flora that gave Kovalam its name (it translates to “grove of coconut trees"), storied Indian fishing traditions continue on sea and land alike. In this video, you’ll see Kovalam Beach from a unique standpoint: This special drone-filmed footage offers a bird’s-eye view of an incredible destination.
A note from our curator David Conover on why he chose this video:
“Every beach is a border beyond the simple meeting of sea and land. This aerial film defines borders in a compelling location on a distant beach. To a wonderfully engaging soundtrack, we see travelers and fishermen at the border. We see fish bordered by a net. We see boats afloat on a border of wood. Seabirds swoop, as does this fishing community, crossing from one side of the border to another… and back again. A truly evocative portrait of a place and time.”
