Question of the Month: May

When this pandemic is behind us, what’s the first thing you’ll do—or the first place you’ll go?

Posted on 5/26/2020 12:00:00 AM in Question of the Month

Our travelers are not only looking forward to seeing the world, but many are counting down the days until they can embrace others.

X

Someday, our world will heal, and our lives will resume some sense of normalcy. In the spirit of looking towards the future, we asked our readers where they will go first when the pandemic is behind us.

The Nile Next Year

Actually, I was supposed to be cruising down the Nile right now! This was to be the dream of lifetime, and my 7th trip with O.A.T. and GCT. I rescheduled this trip to September, 2021 when I will celebrate my 75th birthday. Can't stop the need to travel, no matter what.

Thanks to: Karen Miller, 6-time traveler from Hickory, NC • New! Ancient Egypt & the Nile River

Cruising the Galápagos

I would love to visit the Galápagos Islands. It was what I had hoped to do this year before the pandemic. My second choice would be Iceland.

Thanks to: Rose Middleton from Northridge, CA who we hope to welcome on her first trip soon

Traveling by Books

The first place I'll go? The LIBRARY! In spite of new info/entertainment resources (thank goodness!), I still love to walk into a library, chat with other happy readers, smell the books, browse through the shelves, select a few books, maybe sit in a rocker on the library's sun porch looking out over Grand Traverse Bay and start reading! It's a local joy that also brings the world into my hands & creates dreams of future trips with O.A.T. and Grand Circle!

Thanks to: Kathy Moyer, 10-time traveler from Oro Valley, AZ

Seize the Day

I always thought that advanced age would keep me close to home, so I started overseas travel when I was fifty-eight, in 2006. I was strong and healthy. Since 2006, I have taken thirteen vacations to Europe, Africa, the UK, Ireland, and Asia—overland adventures and cruises. Being in lockdown these months underscored the good sense of my not putting things off.

I rescheduled a trip to the Western Coast of Italy, Malta, and Sicily from May 2020 to March 2021, and my October 2020 Danube river cruise will set sail instead in 2021 as well.

When I can travel again, I am not putting it off till an unspecified “later.”

Life has proved to be uncertain, even to the most secure among us. If this virus has taught us anything, let it be to Seize the Day.

Thanks to: Laurie Rosin, 13-time traveler from Sarasota, FL

Taking it to the Streets

I want to have a potluck with my neighbors and dance in the street to lively music.

Thanks to: Zana Frownfelter, 3-time traveler from Fresno, CA • Antarctica’s White Wilderness

Hoping for Next Year

This year is our 50th wedding anniversary and we had a year of travel planned. Some was as a couple, some with friends, and some with family.

Well, COVID-19 has just about wiped out all our planning. Our Eastern Europe to the Black Sea river cruise was canceled. The trip for 10 of us to Hilton Head is in serious jeopardy. A cruise to the Bahamas with our oldest son's family won't be sailing. Our last hope is a Disney cruise with four grandchildren in November.

But, on the bright side our family is healthy and holding up very well. So, God willing, maybe we get to celebrate next year!

Thanks to: Chet and Judy Marshall, 20-time travelers from Bensalem, PA • Eastern Europe to the Black Sea.

Time for Hugs

I will spend time with family/friends and hug, hug, hug. Long, heartfelt hugs. Look forward to traveling once again throughout the year. We have rearranged another African trip with you, hopefully will materialize summer 2021.

Thanks to: Paula Broder, 4-time traveler from Louisville, KY • Ultimate Africa: Botswana, Zambia & Zimbabwe Safari

No More Waiting

The minute this is over, I am getting on an airplane to NYC to see my son and grandchildren. Then I will start traveling to every place I have left on my bucket list. No more waiting.

Thanks to: Carrie Roberts, first-time traveler from Bullard, TX

Next up: Morocco

Since we book our major trips (typically two per year), up to two years in advance, the first place we will go is the first of our previously booked trips that isn’t cancelled due to the Coronavirus.

Our June 2020 cruise has been cancelled. Next up are Morocco in the fall and Turkey next spring, both with O.A.T. If Morocco is cancelled, we’ll try again in the fall of 2021.

Thanks to: Mark Henry, 9-time traveler from Potomac, MD • Morocco Sahara Odyssey and Turkey’s Magical Hideaways

A Grandmother’s Love

To visit my daughter who is eight months pregnant and the new grandchild after it is born when it is safe to visit and hold this precious gift from God. I have not seen her since February.

Thanks to: Betty Scherger, 10-time traveler from Jupiter, FL

Ladies on Adventure

Croatia! Our all girls trips with O.A.T. have been a yearly reunion with wonderful ladies from across the country. We are eagerly hoping our September trip will be a go, but we are aware O.A.T. will put our health first. O.A.T. has always put the individual’s safety and authentic experiences first.

Thanks to: Patricia Poggi, 13-time traveler and 5-time Vacation Ambassador from Cape Coral, FL • Crossroads of the Adriatic: Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Slovenia

More Hugs

The first thing I will do is hug everybody I meet. I am hug starved! And I am pretty sure most others are too.

Thanks to: Phyllis Bambeck, 5-time traveler from Cleveland, OH

Celebrating in Scotland

I hope to celebrate the big 70 in the Hebrides in April 2021 on my Scotland trip with a plate of haggis in front of me and a wee dram of single malt in my right hand.

Thanks to: Mike Delong, 13-time traveler from Sandy, UT • New! Scotland Revealed: Legends, Lochs & Highland Landscapes

Rwandan Adventure

The first thing I’ll do is pack for my O.A.T. trip to Rwanda.

Thanks to: : Lindley Rawlins, 3-time traveler from Stamford, CT • New! Rwanda: Mountain Gorillas in the Land of a Thousand Hills

Embracing Interactions

I will travel anywhere and just to enjoy the freedom and interaction in person with people. I will visit the lovely couple we had such a wonderful time with on our trip to the Middle East and just be thankful for the day and take deep breaths.

Thanks to: Joe and Kathy Fisher from Boston, MA who we hope to welcome on their first trip soon

Discovering the Adriatic

After the pandemic is behind us the first thing we will do is go out to our favorite restaurant to celebrate! Second, as we live in Florida and our family is in the Northeast, we will jump in our car and head up to visit our children and grandchildren giving everyone a big hug!

As far as real travel, we are anxiously waiting for our postponed 2020 trip with OAT which is the Undiscovered Adriatic: Eastern Italy, Venice, Puglia & Malta in 2021. We will be traveling with 2 other couples that we met and have traveled with on other tips Looking forward to seeing them again.

Thanks to: Bob and Jean Adkins, 26-time travelers from Ocala, FL • Undiscovered Adriatic: Eastern Italy, Venice, Puglia & Malta
