About Grand Circle Gallery

In July 2010, Grand Circle Corporation Chairman and Vice Chairman Alan and Harriet Lewis opened Grand Circle Gallery, an environment for sharing their passion for travel and commitment to the arts through an extensive collection of vintage travel posters and black-and-white photography.

Grand Circle Gallery’s mission is to serve Grand Circle travelers and the community through exhibitions and educational programs that teach and inspire. Special emphasis is given to our extensive collection of vintage travel posters and travel-related themes as well as to exhibits that create awareness around social issues both past and present through art and photography.

The posters date from the early 20th century up to World War II, highlighting the “Golden Age of Travel.” By presenting the collection to the public, Grand Circle Gallery imparts the tradition and aesthetic of lithography as well as evocative photography, such as the breathtaking aerial photographs of the renowned Bradford Washburn. Other past exhibits include black-and-white photography—some travel-related, like the vintage images of Europe photographed by George Daniell, and some reflective of times of historic world change, like the dramatic portrayals of the Civil Rights Movement captured by photographer and filmmaker Danny Lyon and photographs of the 1960s by Elliott Erwitt.

Grand Circle Gallery is housed in Boston’s Fort Point Channel district, in a historic 19th-century brick building whose first tenants were Chase & Co., a confectionery company that patented America’s first candy machine in the early 1800s. As New England’s textile industry grew, these buildings were later used as storage for the wool trade. Today, it serves as the headquarters of Grand Circle Corporation, parent company of Overseas Adventure Travel and Grand Circle Travel, providers of unique, international vacations for Americans over 50.
