Berlin is the symbolic and official capital of the “new Germany”—where the leaders in German design, technology, business, and arts thrive. While physical remnants and painful memories of its former division remain, the people of Berlin now live alongside one another without the oppressive limitations of the past.

You’ll enjoy an enlightening tour of the exhilarating German capital, including iconic Brandenburg Gate, the triumphal arch built to represent Prussian power, tree-lined Unter den Linden boulevard, and the majestic Reichstag (Parliament building). History comes into view as your tour World War II airport locale at Templehof, the Cold War border Checkpoint Charlie, and sweeping Alexanderplatz, a plaza that served as the heart of East Germany and now reflects the era of reunification.

You’ll enjoy time to explore on your own this afternoon. Perhaps you’ll tour some of Berlin’s more than 170 museums, take a walk on the remaining portion of the wall itself, enjoy a ride to the glass dome at the top of the Reichstag, or visit the Olympic stadium where American track-and-field star Jesse Owens incensed Hitler by winning four gold medals in 1936.

Enjoy dinner on your own this evening.

Continue discovering Berlin at your own pace today.

Or join us for an optional tour to nearby Potsdam, stopping en route at Glienike Bridge, the so-called “Bridge of Spies” know for its use as the setting for prisoner swaps during the Cold War. Then continue on to Potsdam, home to Cecilienhof Palace—which is part of the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin UNESCO World Heritage Site. The last palace built by the Hohenzollern dynasty, the Tudor-influenced manse boasts an imposing exterior, with 55 chimneys topping a brick-and-oak frame that outlines six courtyards. It was here that Winston Churchill and Harry Truman hammered out the details of the Japanese surrender in World War II. After your lunch nearby, enjoy a stroll through the baroque manicured gardens of Sanssouci Park.

Toast your Berlin discoveries in a Farewell Drink with your fellow travelers, before enjoying final dinner on your own this evening.
