Trip Extensions

Pre-trip: Seattle & Victoria

Come with us and discover the charms of Victoria, the “Garden City.” This sophisticated seaside community still has a British colonial feel to its streets and offers visitors high teas in the afternoons, but also a character that is distinctively Pacific Northwest. Explore its award-winning gardens and parks, walk rainforest trails, view galleries of local art, and stroll the flower-bedecked streets.

It's Included:
Accommodations for 1 night at the Superior Tourist-Class Hotel Five or similar in Seattle and 2 nights at the First-Class Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour Hotel
3 meals: 3 breakfasts
2 included tours: Victoria, Butchart Gardens
Roundtrip ferry transfer between Seattle and Victoria
Exclusive services of a Grand Circle Program Director
  • Arrive in Seattle today. After settling in, the balance of the day at leisure to spend as you please.

Dinner tonight is on your own.

  • This morning, transfer to the pier and board the ferry across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Victoria, on the southwestern tip of Vancouver Island.

During an included city tour, you'll discover a host of unique landmarks—including the magnificent Parliament Buildings. Visit Butchart Gardens, a 55-acre floral extravaganza of rose, Japanese, Italian, and sunken gardens built from old rock quarries. The landscape of the first Sunken Garden was designed to use the ragged excavation left after the limestone was exhausted. It was first opened to the public in 1904, and today, more than a million plants thrive within these gardens over the course of a year.

The evening is yours for dinner on your own and the opportunity to discover this charming, English-flavored city, the provincial capital of British Columbia since 1871. Its snug inner harbor retains its Victorian buildings and atmosphere. Well-tended parks, flower baskets hanging from bright blue lamp poles, and red double-decker buses enhance the English colonial atmosphere.

  • You have the entire day to make your own discoveries in this seaside city.

If you want to learn more about the history of the land and people of this coastal area, consider visiting the Royal British Columbia Museum. You might want to walk through the Victoria Butterfly Gardens. And if you desire a true taste of Britain, ask your Program Director about arrangements for high tea at the Empress Hotel.

    • Meals included:

After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to Victoria Pier and board the ferry back to Seattle, arriving in the early afternoon. You will join members of the group arriving for your Northwest National Parks main trip.

Lunch is on your own in Seattle, and you'll have some free time this afternoon to explore the city independently.
