Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE My (solo) trip to Italy was just wonderful.  Yes, Italy is beautiful but I'm been to many beautiful places.  What made this trip extra special were the people on the trip with me; and definitely our GCT Guide Pillar.  She not only guided us through Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast, she made it a learning, as well as a food and wine, experience. /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:none; text-autospace:ideograph-other; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; mso-bidi-font-family:Mangal; mso-font-kerning:1.5pt; mso-fareast-language:ZH-CN; mso-bidi-language:HI;}   The trip was also over the Christmas holiday and Pillar took the time to make sure we had a wonderful day, even though most of Italy was at home having their own Christmas.   If anyone is thinking that winter is a poor time to take a trip to Italy, think again.  Our weather was wonderful, somewhat cold mornings and evenings, with sunny moderate temperatures during the majority of the day.  We only had one day of on/off rain and that was the day we drove back to Rome.   Florence and the major exhibits (Pompeii, museums, city tours, etc)  were almost free of all tourist so Pillar or city guides could always give us much longer tours of the exibits and/or areas.   We were the only bus at Pompeii and the only bus driving the the Amalfi Coast, so photo stops happened often.   Since I'm not much on crowds, I found it delightful.  This tour was my first time inn Italy and it definitely made me know that it will not be my last time in Italy.

Pilar was our PD for Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast. As far as we are concerned, she set the standard for us for future PD's. Conscientious, caring, knowledgeable, above and beyond on those wonderful special experiences...she still reigns in our hearts. Bravo Pilar! We love you...

ntflady, most of your post is illegible, at least to me.  Lots of ampersands and things.

We also had Pillar, the "Crazy Scot", as our PD in 2007 when the tour was "Amalfi Coast and Tuscany", with Sorrento coming first. I don't know that I would say she was the absolute best, but she was very, very good. She certainly saw nothing as an "insurmountable problem".
