Is there anyone who has taken this small ship adventure and can give an opinion on which is the better direction to travel: Cannes to Florence or Florence to Cannes?  I would also like to hear any input on the pre- and post-trip extensions and the optional tours. Thanks!

We traveled Florence to Rome. The only factor that might make a difference that I can think of would be if you're arranging your own air; we used miles to and from Rome and an Italy rail pass to go to Florence after time in Rome, and to Milan and Arezzo and back to Rome after the tour ended in Cannes.  The Monaco optional had no takers; we very much enjoyed the Genoa optional. We didn't take the Tuscany lunch optional because we had done similar things in the past, but everyone who did loved it.

How about flying in and out of Milan?  Has anyone tried that yet?  This is such a new trip, but the territory is a bit familiar to us so we're not afraid to rent a car or take a train to/from the beginning and ending cities. I'd like to hear more about the Lake Maggiore post trip, and also know the changes in the itinerary which have been made for 2014.
