I have not seen any new posts from others since this message has been posted about the new guidelines. Is there a reason for this?

I'm with you, Nancy. I saw no posts on the 20th and only these two today. But then, I didn't post any either.

Yes, but there are posts on the OAT forum.  However, not as many as usual.

I would like to request the following addition to the guidelines. Do not enter text in all caps because it is considered to be the equivalent of shouting and not polite.

I don't see anything in the guidelines that prohibits "cut and paste" from a MS Word document, but that is seemingly something that cannot be done. I have journals of all of my trips in the MS Word format on my computer. It would be convenient if I could respond to some posts by cutting a portion of a journal and pasting it onto the forum.  It seems that the only way to enter something into a forum post is to type it in directly -- cut and paste is not allowed. Am I missing something? If my interpretation is correct, why?

This is a test.

I copied the preceding sentence from a Word document and pasted it here. So it works for me.

I'm happy for you, Janice, but it still doesn't work for me. I get a message that says, "The text you are trying to paste appears to be from Word. Do you want to clean it?" I don't know what that means, but when I click "OK" I get a screen that is a grey square in which I can do nothing. When I click "Cancel" my text appears in the forum message blank, but there is no response when I click "Post". In fact, the screen is locked to accept only an exit from the forum. There is some kind of incompatability. I can live without the ability to cut and paste, but I would really like an explanation.

First of all, I am assuming that you are really trying to do a copy and paste because a cut would delete the selected text from your document. Your problem is most likely caused by your having used Word formatting which is not compatible with what can be used here. Apparently, there is also a problem with the "clean it" procedure. As a work-around, you could try opening a new document in Notepad which does very little formatting, copy and paste from your Word document to Notepad and then copy and paste from it into the forum posting box.

Your assumption is spot on, Janice. I was indeed trying to "copy and paste", not "cut and paste". As I get the time (and the inclination) I'll try several different options, including what you have suggested. Thank you.

CaptainLarry,

I have tried to copy and paste many times on this forum.  I copy something to a new document, and while I have the dialogue block (such as this one  open, I go back and "copy", then come back to this block and "paste".  What happens, is that GCT puts up a dialogue box that tells me that I must paste into that block (which is smaller), so I execute "paste", then come  back to my original  dialogue box, like this one I'm typing on, then do another paste, and my "paste" works that way.  At this point I'm not sure I have to do the second paste, because it is a long time, but I do know I  have to paste into the little dialogue box that GCT puts  up, because they state that a paste won't work any other way and they are working on that.

FWIW, I used to have Internet Explorer as my primary browser; however, now I use Google Chrome.  If you aren't aware of it, the procedure to cut & paste text and/or post pictures on this board are different with each browser; and I have no idea why.

The point being...what you tell someone may be correct for your browser; however, it may only work that way for someone else if they have the same browser, etc. At least tht is what I have experienced.
