We will be doing the China Trip in April TY. The Visa Application form looks very detailed.

Any tips on filling it out ? How detailed does it have to be? Have to fill in about all hotels stays and times? Detailed Flight info ? In Country Contact for emergency ?

Any insights or tips will be apprecated before I start and mess it up.

Thanks.

We're not going to China, but just a note about filling out these type forms.    We make a couple copies on our printer, then do a Draft. )nce we have that completed, we transfer the info to the final document.  This way we don't make a mess of the original form and its info.

It's been about 5 years since we have been to China and I don't remember the details, but we're going to India next month and the OAT visa package gave us the information to fill in many such fields. If the did not do that and you  are using PVS, call tPVS to find out how to fill out any fields in question.

Last year I did my own visa application for China. I used the info PVS sent me to know what to put in each box. Just follow those instructions.  Easy-peasy.  The application also asks for a copy of the trip itinerary and a copy of the airline itinerary with the flight numbers.  I took my application into the Chinese visa office in Sept. and they didn't want to keep those documents -- just kept the main application and the passport. They gave me a receipt with the processing number and the cost.  Two days later I went back and got the passport with visa glued in.  I paid with a credit card.  It took me longer to park and walk into the office than to wait in line and be processed to get the visa.  Don't be afraid to do it yourself.

Be sure you check the multi-entry visa.  Depending on the trip you take, you will probably use/need the multi-entry visa.  The visa is good for a year, so why not get it?  There is no additional cost.

Unfortunately, one cannot mail in a visa application to the Chinese visa office. Each passport and application has to be hand carried -- even by PVS.  Every time I go to the Chinese visa office, there are lines of couriers with duffle bags absolutely stuffed with passports and applications.  These are bundled together with rubber bands (I assume according to tours and/or companies that get folks the visas, like PVS). The couriers then go back in two days and retrieve the passports with the visas inside.

We are going on this trip beginning 4/23. Are you on the same trip?  We also made blank copies from the web site and filled out everything before entering info on the computer.  The info that came with the form in the mail had just about every detail line for line on what to put on the form.

we just went and had another set of passport pictures done and mailed everything including our passports to the address label that was included in the package we got.  You can have the return receipt sent to your email for a little less than returnd to you by mail. Just ask the post office about it. We got an email today saying it was received

Let us know if you are on the same trip.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I have forms, kind of simplistic, only a few areas not sure of. We have not gotten any fron the passport co yet. I just downloaded it and started in in on it. We are headed to Central Am in Feb so we have a short time frame to do the China visas.

To Richinct: W depart on 4/25/13, headed to Tokyo for pre-trip. We met up with Main trip on 4/30. Looks like you are a few days ahead of us.Looks like good trip so have FUN and get smog cleared away before hand .

If you need the visa 'fill out' information at short notice ask the GCT or OAT staff to emai it to you.  I did this because I booked the China pre-trip/Mongolia main trip with OAT shortly before our Panama trip.  Needed to send for the Chinese Visa right away so I could have passport back in time for Panama.  Only 2 weeks between Panama and China/Mongolia so couldn't do it after Panama trip.  On booking I requested the China Visa Information and the OAT staff member emailed to it me immediately.

BTW - on PVS website just download the form in .doc format onto your harddrive.  Then fill out, save, re-edit as needed etc. prior to printing the final copy to mail.
