 Nancy,

I assume that you have read the travelers reviews on this trip, but ,just in case you heven't, there is one review that is very possitive but includes recommendations that could improve it that they could have done. It is "Excellent trip BUT be prepared" Published date: 09.03.12.

Nanaand papa--I read it! Is that your review? Have you been on this trip? It's one that I have wanted to go on for about 3-4 years, and I have not been able to convince any of my friends to go, so I am booked as a single. Unfortunately (I guess) some of my friends do not like to travel (or travel internationally), and some do not have the money (or won't spend it) to go on trips...I got tired of waiting and just decided to go ahead and go. I hope I am doing the right thing.

Nancyf.

I'm in more or less the same boat.  I had a friend a traveled with for years, but then she got sick and couldn't travel anymore.  Nobody else seems to have the money or the inclination, so I travel solo.  I always have a good time, and everyone is very friendly and welcoming.  I know you'll have a good time.  I was in that area on Best of Eastern Europe right after 9/11, and it was a very emotional experience for us.

Thanks for the "boost", Pauline!! I went to Peru (OAT's Real Affordable Peru) about 2 years ago, solo. It was a great trip and neat people on it also. It's one of my favorites. I was "nervous" about going solo, but once I got on the trip, it was fine. I now know that I can do it!

 Nancyf,

That is not our review, but we are major proponents of doing your homework in advance. We are going on Heart of India next month and are allocating time, starting this week, to go through the itinerary one day at a time to understand all of the attractions on the itinerary, the cities history, the facilities at the hotels and what other attractions in the area that are not on the scheduled itinerary, in case we have extra time, or choose to skip a planned attraction. We have been assemblig links to information, reading and viewing videos since we booked the trip in June. We traveled independently for many years, where we had to do the homework ourselves. We have found that it can greatly improve the enjoyment of the trip.

Thanks nanaandpapa. I do the same kind of homework. Yes, I had read most of the reviews, esp. the more recent ones, and taken notes. I usually get some travel books for the areas that I am going (Rick Steves is one of my favorites), and get info and ideas from that. I like to read books set in the areas (fiction or non-fiction) and even rent some movies to watch set in those areas--that for the fun of it, mostly. Traveling solo I am reluctant to head out to places on my own (but do that willingly with a friend/traveling companion), but will hopefully find some other solo person or others that might want to see/do some of the same things. We'll see!!
