Does anyone have experience with the Hurtigruten optional shore excursions?  Which are worth doing and which are not?  Would appreciate some advice.

I hope I'm not too late to answer some of your question.    We took this cruise/tour in July 2011.

First, our PD didn't inform us that we might want to look at the Hurtigruten shore excursions ahead of time.  I did in fact do that, but felt uneasy since we weren't dealing directly with GCT on them.  She (Anne) did not inform us of anything about the Hurtigruten line, what was the procedure for boarding the ship (having just gone on a Holland America the previous year, when the entire terminal was jammed with people boarding with our overseas suitcases).

I did ask her during the welcome meeting how boarding would work, but she told me "when you need to know, I'll tell you."  That was our first clue about her character.  If other people asked about the shore excursions, I don't know.  Anne did tell us on the bus from Kirkens to the ship that if we wanted to take the concert at Tromso, that it was the next day and we should get to the desk as early as possible after boarding.  That was almost impossible, there were long lines and people asking questions, kids running around, tour attendants leaving the desk, etc.,  on more than one shore excursion, so we stayed behind.  By the time we got to the tour desk later in the day, there were no seats  left on the buses, but the Hurtigruten tour director said that if this other couple didn't pay for their shore excursion before 6 PM we could have their seats.  So, you may want to check this out on line and go ahead and book them ahead of your trip.  The concert was well worth it; modern church, but the group performing were multi-talented with violin, cello, vocal, etc.  Very good

We didn't take any other shore excursion.  However, GCT did provide  one tour to Trondheim from the ship, specifically for GCT group; it was  a port that we would be in for more than 4 hours.  It was a morning tour.  That was all the shore excursions we took.  Some took extra excursions to some fjords, but we saw many of them while cruising, so why spend money for more.  Yes, the Hurtigruten shore excursions were expensive, but the concert at Tromso we had read about so wanted to take that.  If you go to the trip itself  under Land Tours, Europe, read the reviews for this tour/cruise.
I hope this helps, and sorry for not responding sooner.
