We are going to China this August.  The question about proper clothing was raised.  Is it proper for men and/or women to wear shorts to the Beijing and Shanghi operas?  Or, should we bring along dress slacks?

I went in September, and it was still very warm in Shanghai.  Most of us wore shorts or capris during the day but dressed in casual slacks  for night activities.  The Beijing opera is one of my most memorable experiences there.
