My wife and I will be departing May 7 for the Egypt trip, with a post trip to Jordan. We will need to call back to the states several times while we are there (Egypt and Jordan). Does anyone know if there is a reasonable way of calling the states? Thanks, Pete.

You may want to check Magic Jack--if it works as advertised, should save a WHOLE lot of money!!!  From my experience, second best bet would be a phone card.  Skype might also be an option cheaper than a phone card.

Our tour guide Jafar (Jordon 2009) offered the use of his cell phone for free to anyone who wished to call home. I can't recall seeing a comment about the Jordon trip where Jafar was not the tour guide.

We've used Skype all over the world.  We have our own netbook and smartphone but all internet cafes have Skype capability and head phones and mics.  Just start an account before you leave and then you can log in anywhere.

I am scheduled to go to Egypt..but, not until September.  Are you concerned about going in May?  It seems as if there is still a lot of unrest.  Also...Libya is right next door.  Does this concern you?  I checked the "State" web site recently, but the announcements are old.

My wife and do have some minor concerns, we will keep an eye on what is happening over in Egypt. If things change, we may rethink the trip. But at this time we are more than willing to see all that Epypt and Jordan have to offer. Besides, I work in Brooklyn NY :)
