We are considering a GCT trip to Costa Rica in September 2011.

We have three questions.

1.  The quality of the hotel in San Juan, Occidental Torremolinos.  Alll other websites give it a very poor rating.  And, yours?

2.  Rainy seasion in Costa Rica.  Is this a good time to go?

3.  Insects.  Good or bad?

Any other information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Last year I was in Costa Rica in July (with OAT).  Definitely the rainy season - it was the only international trip I've been on where I actually wore all the clothes I packed!  Had to change 2 or 3 times a day - wet & muggy (rained 7 inches in one afternoon) - take light weight clothes that will dry quickly (my cotton items did not dry overnight).  Overall was a great trip, beautiful country.  No bugs that left any negative memories with me and I'm the first one they will bite!  Enjoy your trip!

We took the Costa Rican Treasures:Coast to Coast  on September 12. We were concerned about the weather because September is supposed to be the hottest, rainiest month but we were very pleasantly surprised. Sunshine and blue sky every morning. If it rained, it was about 4 in the afternoon. We also went prepared for mosquitoes with spray, lotion, etc. and saw very few. They were not a bother at all! It was a great trip and I highly recommend it. We felt we were too old to zipline, but it was great and one of our highlights (among many.)
