Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises Wins #1 World Travel Award for "World's Leading River Cruises"
Third major Award for small ship cruise industry leader
BOSTON—Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises has been named the "World's Leading River Cruise Operator" by the 2008 World Travel Awards. Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the "Travel Industry's equivalent to the Oscar's," the World Travel Awards is the most comprehensive and prestigious awards programs in the global travel industry.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the world's travel and tourism industry. Votes were cast by more than 167,000 travel and tourism professionals in more than 160 countries worldwide. Winning the award is one of the highest accolades to be received within the industry. Grand Circle CEO Vince Cook said that "The fact that we won this award due to votes cast by our colleagues in the industry speaks to our reputation for excellence and success. We are honored, and very proud." Grand Circle has more than 13,000 river cruise bookings by travelers to-date through 2009.
The World Travel Award is only one of several awards and recognitions won by Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises in 2008, including being named among Condé Nast Traveler's Top 5 World's Best Small Ship Cruise Lines earlier this month, and Travel + Leisure's "Top World's Best Cruise Lines" in August. Earlier this year, the fleet was named to Condé Nast's Gold List, and several of Grand Circle's small ships were named among the best in the world, with three ranking in the top five listing.
The World Travel Awards took place on December 2 in the Turks & Caicos and was filmed by World Travel Awards partner BBC Worldwide for in-room hotel broadcast around the world.
