Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises Earns #2 Spot For"World's Best Small Ship Cruise Line" In Condé Nast Traveler's 2007 Readers' Choice Awards
2nd year in a row to earn #2 spot-3rd consecutive year to rank in Top 5
BOSTON, MA (October 17, 2007)-On Wednesday evening, October 10, 2007, Grand Circle Small Ship Cruises, the leader in international small ship travel, adventure and discovery for Americans aged 50-plus, proudly ranked #2 in the "World's Best Small Ship Cruise Line" category of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler 2007 Readers' Choice Awards. Repeating its strong showing in 2006 (when Grand Circle again ranked #2), this marks the third year in a row the company has placed among the Top 5 for this category.
The results are derived from the largest independent poll of consumers' preferences, the Readers' Choice Survey, second in size only to the U.S. Census. A record number of travelers, more than 28,000, voted this year. Grand Circle's overall score, 87.6, was just 0.7 points lower than the first place winner.
What makes this award doubly impressive is the fact that Grand Circle is able to provide high-quality travel experiences at prices that are thousands of dollars less than what the other cruise lines cited in this poll typically charge. (Competitors' per diem prices ranged from 50-300% more than Grand Circle's.)

Today, Grand Circle is the leader in small ship travel, with a fleet of 50 small ships, owned or chartered. Grand Circle's Worldwide Fleet is headquartered in Dubrovnik, Croatia. As proud as the company is of their superb hospitality services and technical management, what truly distinguishes Grand Circle is its unique ability to provide an outstanding experience off the ship. By continually emphasizing discovery, learning, and cultural interaction over shipboard amenities, Grand Circle small ship vacations are a breed apart from the typical cruise. Helping deliver that experience are Grand Circle's 45 worldwide offices. Located in all the key regions Grand Circle ships sail, they are uniquely positioned to obtain the best values, and to facilitate the kinds of local connections that let travelers and natives forge authentic interactions.Another factor that drives Grand Circle's excellence is its team of Program Directors, who, as residents of the countries they serve, provide the insider's perspective that really engages travelers in the life of their host culture. Program Directors not only guide travelers on sightseeing excursions, but conduct school visits, cooking and language classes, and more. They also bring travelers to the homes of local families, including their own families, for a more personal experience. In another unique twist, Grand Circle requires Program Directors to speak frankly about the realities of their countries-even to discuss such difficult issues as the war in the former Yugoslavia or prostitution in Asia.More than 28,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers participated in its 20th Annual Readers' Choice Awards in which readers rated the world's best cities, hotels, airlines, cruise lines, resorts, and more. In the Small Ship Cruise Line category, readers rated by the following criteria: activities/facilities, cabins, crew/service, design/layout, food/dining, and itineraries/schedule and shore excursions.
