Kaas Schaaf

Every Dutch household has a kass schaaf, or cheese slicer. You can buy one for yourself at Blokker, a popular chain store featuring household items.

Anijsblokjes

To soothe a sore throat, reach for a roll of anijsblokjes, a simple but effective herbal remedy available in most Dutch grocery stores. Add two or three of these licorice flavored cubes to a mug of warm milk for a comforting bedtime drink.

Beer glass

It’s not just because I’m Belgian that I think Belgium makes the best beer in the world! And we’re very serious it. Part of what makes our beer taste so good is the glass we serve it in. After all, the shape of the glass affects aromas, head formation, and carbonation. Sometimes, you can find single bottles of beer packaged with their own beer glass. Perhaps asking about different beer glasses would be a good way to start a conversation with a local merchant.

Lace

If you're shopping for lace in Belgium, make sure the "Made in Belgium" trademark is attached. Plus, if there's embroidery at the center of the piece, it's not handmade.
