Le Gruber
Tarte flambee—or flammkuchen, as it’s called in German—is an Alsatian specialty. Meaning “baked in the flames,” the dish is made in a wood-fired oven and resembles a thin crust pizza. Toppings can be savory, such as crème fraiche, onions, and bacon, or sweet, including custard, apples, and cinnamon. Strasbourg’s Le Gruber (11 Rue du Maroquin, near the Cathedral) offers several tasty varieties.

Le Clou
At 3 rue de Chaudron in Strasbourg, close to the cathedral, you'll find Le Clou, a "Winstub" (traditional restaurant) that prides itself on its welcoming ambiance, typical Alsatian fare, and fine service. It's a very popular and famous place in a beautiful setting, and the food is excellent. It's a little expensive, but you'll come away with a true regional experience.
