We sailed on the June 3, 2013 departure of the Burgundy and Provence itinerary, except from Paris to Nice and on the Provence, not the Chardonnay. We had a delightful time.
Responding to two of Norbertsniece's comments, we experienced no mosquitoes. None! While they may have hatched since then and have become a pest since our trip, I would not think they would be a problem while underway; just in the ports.
Second, as Nanaandpapa points out, Norbertsniece's cabin, number 2, is the last in line towards the stern and the engine room. It is no surprise that she is experiencing noise while underway. In a like manner, it is also best to avoid cabins close to the bow if the ship has thrusters. It is always best to be located mid-ship to avoid noise.
We were in cabin 12 on the Provence, and experienced no discomfort from noise. None of the main deck cabins were available when we booked. However, being on the lower deck turned out to be a blessing because being partially below water level, our cabin was well insulated. The air conditioning in our cabin was so cold that we had to turn it warmer. Cabins and public areas on the main deck were much warmer.
All told, our experience on the Provence was wonderful and always comfortable.
