A toast to old favorites & new beginnings

As we reach the end of the year, there’s no better time to reflect on the highlights of 2013—and this month we’re traveling the world and highlighting the Traveler Stories that have delighted me throughout the months. Revisit the icy shores of Antarctica with Corine Freeman, taste the flavors of Portugal and Spain with Lynn and Roger Gee, or rediscover Germany and Switzerland with Vicki Campell, among others.

You can read about the latter two countries in Travel Talk, where we share advice about keeping track of currencies in four countries on Christmas Markets Along the Rhine. And if the spirit of the holidays moves you, try out a great recipe for gluhwein (mulled wine). The version featured this month in Global Kitchen is made in a crockpot, which is not only quite convenient, but also fills your home with delicious, warm scents. It's a favorite on all of our holiday cruises, which include Christmastime on the Seine, Christmas Markets Along the Danube, and our new Christmas Markets Along the Elbe. Or, if you want to experience the delights of Old World Europe at another time of year, you'll enjoy reading about The Romantic Villages of Alpine Europe on our newest Grand Circle Land Tour, featured in Community News & Views.

No matter which trip you chose, I hope you make new memories with Grand Circle—and write new traveler stories of your own—as we welcome 2014. From my heart and home to yours, happy holidays.

What were your favorite travel experiences in 2013, or where do you hope to visit most in 2014? Share your thoughts with me at harriet@gct.com.
