A word of thanks to our travelers who voted in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2012 “Readers’ Choice Awards”

I’m honored to announce that for the very first time, Grand Circle Cruise Line was ranked as the #1 “World’s Best River Cruise Line” in Conde Nast Traveler’s 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. We’ve been recognized in this survey for the past eight years in a row—but this year, the results exceeded our expectations.

Of course, Alan and I are both delighted with this honor—but what thrills us more than anything is that it came from you. This year, Condé Nast tells us that 46,476 readers responded to the survey—which, in addition to cruise lines, ranks the world’s best cities, hotels, airlines, and more.

In the river ship category, readers were asked to rate their experiences based on the ships’ activities and facilities, cabins, crew and service, design and layout, food and dining, itineraries and schedule, and shore excursions. We know that every one of these elements is crucial to our excellence—but what really sets Grand Circle apart is that we’re able to offer you a 4-star experience at a 3-star value. Our prices are $50 to $500 lower per day than you’d pay with other leading small ship travel companies. Will you find luxury spa treatments aboard one of our ships? No—but to Alan and me, that’s not what travel is about. Our priority is to immerse you in local culture every step of the way, all the while making you feel relaxed and well-cared for.

We’re indebted to our outstanding nautical and hospitality crew, who work tirelessly to make your time onboard comfortable, memorable, and fun; and to our resident Program Directors, who show you every destination in a way that’s both educational and entertaining. I am so grateful to our entire team for their unparalleled passion and commitment.

And I’m so grateful to every one of our travelers who shared his or her opinion in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The last time we received accolades from Condé Nast Traveler, consumer and digital editor Wendy Perrin described Grand Circle Cruise Line travelers as not only “extroverted and intellectually curious,” but also “fiercely loyal” … and you’ve demonstrated all of these qualities by supporting us in this poll.
