Day 1
Arrive Aix-en-Provence

After disembarking the ship in Paris this morning, you fly to Marseilles and transfer to Aix-en-Provence.

Upon arrival in Aix-en-Provence, settle in to your hotel, then gather with your fellow travelers and Program Director for a vicinity walk that will acquaint you with this lovely town. This afternoon, drop by the Girault workshop to watch artisans create santons, or "little saints," the terra cotta figurines for which this area is known.

Dinner is on your own and your evening is at leisure.

Day 2
Aix-en-Provence/Optional Avignon tour

This morning, join an optional half-day excursion to the City of Popes, Avignon, where you'll tour the Old Town and visit the famous Papal Palace.

Or, enjoy a morning to explore Aix-en-Provence on your own. You may consider a visit to the charming Vieil Aix, north of Cours Mirabeau. The neighborhood is all narrow lanes, pretty squares, and detailed architecture—with endless places to browse and shop.

After a visit to post-Impressionist painter Cezanne’s former studio, your afternoon is at leisure. Perhaps you’ll stroll among the stalls of the nearby Christmas Market, browsing for handmade gifts and watching artisans at work. With your fellow travelers, you'll visit a callison shop, where you’ll see how candied fruit and almond treats—and other regional specialties—are made. Of course, you can sample them if you wish.

Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 3
Aix-en-Provence/Optional Provencal Villages tour

This morning, join an optional journey through the Provencal Villages of Luberon—Lourmarin, Bonnieux, and Rousillion—among the most celebrated towns in all of France. You’ll delight in the motorcoach ride as well as the villages themselves: the landscape includes farmland, fields, vineyards, olive groves, and forest.

Or, enjoy a day of leisure in Aix-en-Provence to make your own discoveries. Founded by the Romans in 123 BC, this delightful town has long attracted artists, including the writer Emile Zola and the painter Paul Cezanne, who was born here and lived and worked here for much of his life. You could admire the Cours Mirabeau, the grand boulevard with its arch of trees. Its south side is lined with elegant hotels. Or visit the ancient Roman baths located just outside the Old Town.

Gather with your traveling companions for a Farewell Drink early this evening. Afterwards, your evening is at leisure, and dinner is on your own.

Day 4
Return to U.S.

After breakfast this morning, transfer to the Marseilles airport for your flight home.
