GCL was not helpful in assisting us with planning for our independent air travel plans to Saint Petersburg and transfers to the M/S Rossia. Different GCL Traveler Support representatives gave us conflicting and incomplete information about details of the itinerary necessary to get to and from river terminals in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. We did our own research to complete our plans.
Since the GCL itinerary included only an afternoon at the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, we booked our air travel a day early and stayed in a nearby hotel to spend extra time at this splendid museum. Given GCL’s lack of assistance, we were fortunate in having a hotel concierge arrange for transportation from the Saint Petersburg airport to the hotel and on the next day, from the hotel to the River Terminal. These transfers were somewhat costly, but no more so that what GCL charged us for the transfer at the end of the trip from Moscow to the airport.
On balance, arranging our own travel plans to and from Russia allowed us to have a more relaxing trip.
