Update on Chile
As many of you have probably heard, a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Chile last week. The epicenter was in Concepción, approximately 200 miles south of Santiago. While we don’t travel to the area where the earthquake hit on any of our trips, the damage was extensive and resulted in the closing of the airport in Santiago.
I wanted to take this moment to give you all an update on OAT and Grand Circle’s actions and plans in Chile since the earthquake. We have been in touch with our regional associates in both Argentina and Chile and we’ve learned that all of our travelers, Trip Leaders, Program Directors, and regional associates in the area are safe.
Although two of our groups were in Santiago at the time of the earthquake, all are safe and accounted for—and have already met with our Regional General Managers and Regional Associates on Monday. To learn more about the situation in the area and our plans to continue to travel to the region, read our News & Views section.
