Food for thought: Giving a little can mean a lot
One of the things I love most about our associates is how important it is for them to give back—and not just to the places we travel, but also closer to home. And I’m reminded that the gifts we give don’t need to be extravagant displays: What we give can be as simple as an hour of our time, a single can of food, or a bright smile.
Last week, Alan, Charlotte, Edward, and I—along with about 30 Grand Circle associates—spent an evening sorting and packing food at the Greater Boston Food Bank. The organization distributes about 30 million pounds of food to nearly 600 hunger-relief agencies throughout eastern Massachusetts each year—and provides groceries to families and seniors who need them most. Although it was hard work, we had a great time together!
In conjunction with our visit, we’d launched our first-ever, canned food drive several weeks before … and when we showed up at the Food Bank last Wednesday, we brought with us an astonishing 840 pounds’ worth of groceries! As you can see from this photo, we stored the items in the lobby of our Boston headquarters—which made for an inspiring sight, indeed, for all who entered:
