Chile returns to normal after earthquake
Last month, I provided an update on the situation in Chile after a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit the country on February 27.
Since that initial update, I’m happy to report that things have returned to normal in Santiago—which was one of the cities affected in the first hours after the quake hit—and have been going strong for several weeks now. According to Magdalena Zoroza, Grand Circle’s Regional General Manager for Argentina, the only remaining issue is that Santiago International Airport is still operating at partial capacity. However, while some of the check-in procedures are being done in a tent outside the main building, all flights are operating normally.
Furthermore, Grand Circle’s vacations do not visit any of the areas near the earthquake’s epicenter, Concepción. The areas we visit on our trips—Puerto Varas, Punta Arenas, and Torres del Paine—were not affected by the earthquake, and all are operating normally.
Our regional offices in both Chile and Argentina, as well as our Program Directors, have done a tremendous job since the earthquake first hit. They tell us that the best way our travelers can help Chile and Argentina is to continue to visit these beautiful countries.
