Capture—and share—your visions of discovery: Grand Circle’s 2010 Photo Contest
Several months ago, I was leafing through a book of quotations and came across one—attributed to “Anonymous”—that I particularly liked: “A photograph is a portrait painted by the sun.” This simple idea rang especially true for me when I saw the photo below—taken by John Wood, Grand Circle’s Call Center Director, during an overland drive between Christchurch and Queenstown on New Zealand’s South Island. For me, the sun’s subtle presence creates the colors, shadows, and textures that really bring the landscape alive.
This is just one of the many breathtaking landscapes John saw during his recent Australia, New Zealand & Fiji Escorted Tour. “The South Island of New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places on Earth,” he explained. “Those who haven’t been on this trip may wonder why we don’t fly between the two cities,” John continued. “But this region is loaded with such amazing scenery, it would be a shame to miss seeing it.” Looking at his image, I have to agree.
If John’s photograph inspires you to share your own visions of discovery, I hope you’ll forward your entries—in the categories of Nature, Landmarks, Local People, and Fellow Travelers—to our annual Grand Circle Photo Contest by November 30, 2010.
Before the end of the year, we’ll be spotlighting Russia, Britain, and our Holiday River Cruises along the Rhine, Danube, and Seine rivers. So if you’ve explored these destinations with Grand Circle, please share your stories—and pictures—with me at harriet@gct.com.
